South Korea and Czechia are in Group A of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
South Korea will face Czechia at the Guadalajara Stadium in Zapopan, Mexico, on June 11, in the second Group A match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
South Korea secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a dominant performance in the AFC qualifiers. The South Korean side boosted an unbeaten streak of 16 matches, scoring 40 goals while conceding only eight. They secured resounding victories over China, Thailand, Singapore and other Asian nations.
On the other hand, Czechia’s qualification for the World Cup was dramatic. Miroslav Koubek’s men were drawn in UEFA Qualifying Group L, where they finished second, behind leaders Croatia. They were forced to participate in the play-offs to keep their hope for World Cup qualification alive.
In the semi-final, they came back from 0-2 to force a penalty shoot-out against the Republic of Ireland and later won. Playing the final in Prague, the match went into the penalty shootout with a similar (2-2) scoreline. Czechia again made the cut, defeating Denmark 3-1 on penalties.
The fixture between South Korea and Czechia has received less attention compared to the opening game, Mexico vs. South Africa. However, it also features top football players, including Son Heung-min, Patrik Schick, Kim Min-jae, and others.
Patrik Schick ended his season for Bayer Leverkusen in decent form, while playmaker Pavel Sulc’s form looked promising throughout the last season as he played for Lyon. Tomáš Souček has been a reliable midfielder for the side for a long time, while he will also be backed in the defence by Ladislav Krejčí and Tomáš Holes.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s attack includes Tottenham legend Son Heung-min, PSG’s Lee Kang-in, and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hwang Hee-chan, which could pose a threat to any defence.
