Spain vs Croatia: All-time head-to-head record

La Roja dominates the rivalry between both sides.

The first match in Group B of Euro 2024 takes place on Saturday in Berlin, as three-time champions Spain face Croatia in an intriguing contest between a rising power and an experienced dark horse.

La Roja enters the tournament in excellent form under new coach Luis de la Fuente. They crushed Andorra 5-0 and Northern Ireland 5-1 in warm-up friendlies earlier this month. While not considered favourites alongside England, France and Germany, Luis de la Fuente’s talented young squad could go far.

Their lineup is headlined by precocious 16-year-old forward Lamine Yamal, who is set to become the youngest player ever at a European Championship finals. Other promising stars like Pedri, Gavi and Ansu Fati provide an exciting blend of youth and experience.

Historically, Spain have dominated the rivalry with Croatia, winning six of the 10 previous meetings between the nations. That includes a penalty shootout victory in the 2022-23 Nations League final.

Croatia, however, will be no pushovers in Berlin. Under Zlatko Dalic’s management, they reached the 2018 World Cup final and finished third in 2022, they have the ability to thrive on the big stage. They arrived at Euro 2024 on a six-match winning streak that included an impressive 2-1 victory against Portugal.

The Croatians boast a veteran core of stars like Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic who will be determined to guide the nation to their first European Championship semi-finals. With talented youngsters like Josko Gvardiol emerging, Croatia could well top their previous best quarterfinal performances
