Viktor Gyokeres has produced 22 goals in 24 league games this season
Viktor Gyokeres, a transfer target for Chelsea and Arsenal, may have a new, higher releasing option as Sporting Lisbon tries to achieve a higher price.
This is in line with recent reports from Portugal, which state that Gyokeres’ representatives visited Lisbon to negotiate an agreement that would increase his release clause. The 25-year-old Sweden international attacker is now being pursued by Arsenal, while Chelsea is trying to entice him to Stamford Bridge.
Since moving from English team Coventry City to Sporting at the beginning of the season, Gyokeres has made a huge impression in the Portuguese top division.
In his first 40 games for Sporting, he has contributed 14 assists and 36 goals, sparking attention from some of the top clubs in Europe.
Sporting are “fully aware” that a record sale is anticipated during the summer transfer window, according to Portuguese daily A Bola.
Gyokeres’ purchase price had been projected to be €50 million (£43 million), but if his agents can secure him a better deal, that figure might increase.

Sporting rejected a proposal from Chelsea for Gyokeres in January, and the forward has been evasive about his future plans.
Asked about Chelsea’s interest in January, Gyokeres told Sport TV: ‘I don’t think anything about it. I’m here and we have important games to play, I’m focused on that.
‘There’s a lot of talk on social media and elsewhere, but I’m not focused on that I don’t think about anything else. I’m here right now. I’m 100 per cent focused on this and the club.’
But it’s not something I take too seriously, since it’s just speculation. But of course, it’s fun. We’ll see this summer. It’s not something I know about myself, what will happen. I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly.
“It is clear that what I have done has attracted attention, but it is not really my focus in everyday life. But of course, it’s fun that I have fans who appreciate what I’ve done.”
