The Blagult will face a tough test against an in-form French side in tonight’s match.
Sweden take on France in a Round of 32 fixture in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 30. The Scandinavian side qualified as one of the eight best third-placed sides in the group stage, and will face the Group I champions tonight.
The Blagult began their campaign in stunning fashion, beating Tunisia 5-1 in their opener. Yasin Ayari scored a brace, while Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, and Mattias Svanberg also found the back of the net.
Their next match also ended 6-1, but it was a win for the Netherlands, with Anthony Elanga netting a consolation goal for his side. A 1-1 draw against Japan on the final match day sealed a place in the knockout stages for Graham Potter’s side, but they will have their work cut out against an unbeaten France team who are the current title favourites.

Let’s look at the Sweden confirmed lineup for the FIFA World Cup 2026 match against France:

Sweden predicted lineup (3-4-3): Jacob Widell Zetterstrom; Gustaf Lagerbielke, Victor Lindelof (c), Gabriel Gudmundsson; Daniel Svensson, Yasin Ayari, Lucas Bergvall, Elliot Stroud; Anthony Elanga, Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak.
Substitutes: Viktor Johansson (gk), Kristoffer Nordfeldt (gk), Taha Ali, Alexander Bernhardsson, Hjalmar Ekdal, Herman Johansson, Jesper Karlstrom, Gustaf Nilsson, Benjamin Nygren, Ken Sema, Eric Smith, Carl Starfelt, Mattias Svanberg, Besfort Zeneli.
Thoughts on the lineup
Potter will opt for a largely unchanged side from the previous game. Goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom was brilliant in the match against Japan, making several big saves to secure a point for his side. He starts between the sticks, and in front of him is the three-man defence of Gustaf Lagerbielke, Victor Lindelof, and Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Yasin Ayari controls the midfield along with Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall. The pair will be tasked with both stopping the French waves of attack and linking up with the front three while going forward. Potter starts with two attacking-minded players – Alexander Bernhardsson and Daniel Svensson – in the wing-back positions.
Anthony Elanga has been devastating off the bench in this World Cup, but he makes his second consecutive start tonight after goals in back-to-back games. Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak complete the star-studded attacking line for the Blagult.
