The Swiss are playing at the World Cup for the sixth consecutive tournament.
Switzerland are participating in the World Cup for the sixth time in a row. In four of those competitions, including the last three, they have lost in the round of 16.
Since hosting the World Cup in 1954, the Swiss have only made it to the quarterfinals three times. They will thus be hoping that this time they make a deep run in the competition.
Switzerland finished first in their group, ahead of Kosovo, Slovenia, and Sweden, after an outstanding qualification performance. The Swiss showed their calibre and reliability throughout the season by earning 14 points from their six qualifying games.
They automatically qualified for the tournament without having to compete in the playoff round thanks to their tenacity and tactical discipline.
On June 14, 2026, Switzerland will play Qatar to start their World Cup campaign. On June 19, 2026, they will play Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on June 25, 2026, they will conclude their group stage games against Canada. In order to gain momentum before the knockout phases, the Swiss will be looking to get as many points as possible in group matches.
