This was the second-ever clash between these nations.
For their second game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Switzerland national football team battled against the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. The high-intensity game took place at the Los Angeles Stadium.
The fixture began with both of the nations struggling in the final third. The change in tempo came in the second half, when it got intense with each passing minute. The game ended in favour of Murat Yakin’s men. They still have a lot of things to deal with going forward, but for now, they will be satisfied with three points.
The match turned into a nightmare for the Dragons. They will most likely not be able to get to the next stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. They could’ve done better, but it is now too late.
Five important things we learned from this match:
1. Midfield masterclass from Granit Xhaka

The most consistent player for the Switzerland national football team has to be Granit Xhaka. He came up with exceptional passes for his teammates throughout the game and also scored the final goal in the game. The 33-year-old showed why he still belongs in the Switzerland squad. He played a major role in helping his team secure a win.

2. Substitutes made the difference

Murat Yakin made three important substitutions for the Nati in the final quarter of the game. He brought in the 20-year-old Johan Manzambi, who went on to score a sensational brace. Yakin also sent Ruben Vargas and Djibril Sow on the field. Vargas scored a goal and bagged an assist. They ended up thumping the Dragons by securing a 4-1 win. These substitutes made a huge difference in the tempo of the game.
3. Tarik Muharemović’s red card was costly
After Tarik Muharemović was sent off because of a poor tackle, Bosnia and Herzegovina went on to concede three goals and it only shifted the momentum away from them. With the centre-back off in the 80th minute, their defence only got worse. They will now be under pressure for their upcoming and final group stage game of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
4. The Dragons fail to control the game yet again
Only if they had better control of the tempo, they might have come up with a stronger fight against the Swiss national football team. Despite having an experienced Edin Džeko, they lacked quality in attack. The Dragons only attempted four shots towards the and found the net only once after Ermin Mahmić scored late in the game.
5. Switzerland lack quality in attack
Till the 73 minutes, the Switzerland national football team came in with multiple attempts in front of goal. They failed to score a goal and were under constant pressure. Breel Embolo lacks finishing skills. Dan Ndoye was ineffective on the flank. It was only after the substitutions in the final quarter that Switzerland came out on top to net four goals.
