Switzerland vs Canada: All-time head-to-head record ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

Rossocrociati eye first-ever win against hosts Canada in top-of-the-table clash of Group B in Vancouver

BC Place in Vancouver, Canada gears up to host the final match week fixtures in Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026, where hosts Canada and European giants Switzerland lock horns in what is set to be a thrilling contest that will decide the fate of Group B.

Switzerland have made it back-to-back knockout stage appearances since 2014. Rossocrociati are coming after a big 4-1 win over Bosnia in the last game and are just a win away from cementing their place at the top of Group B. They are led by Swiss gaffer Murat Yakin.

A draw would be enough for Canada to seal the top spot in Group B. A team that never won a World Cup game previously is coming after a 6-0 win over reigning Asian champions Qatar in the last game. Former Leeds United and RB Leipzig gaffer Jesse Marsch leads them.

A win is mandatory for Switzerland to leapfrog hosts Canada from the top spot. However, a draw would be sufficient for the hosts as they are ahead of their European opponents in goal difference.

In this article, we take a ride down memory lane to find out who has the upper hand against whom. As the two teams prepare to rewrite history, we find out what happened when these two sides last met each other and who scored and impressed more in this fixture.

These two sides met only once so far in history, and that ended in an entertaining high-scoring game.

So it was back in May 2002 in Espenmoos, St. Gallen, Switzerland, when these two sides locked horns. Both sides failed to qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Switzerland were led by Jakob Kuhn and Holger Osieck was the coach of Canada.

It took Tomasz Radzinski just twenty minutes to break the deadlock and make it 1-0. Goals started coming for Canada in quick succession. By 50 minutes, the score was 3-0 in favour of Canada. The hosts were on the verge of a humiliating defeat on home soil.

In the dying minutes of the game, Blaise Nkufo pulled one back for the hosts, but that was merely a consolation goal as Canada secured a big 3-1 win over Switzerland.
