Except for a dismal spell from 1970 to 1990, Switzerland have consistently qualified for the FIFA World Cup. They have also secured their place in North America.
The Nati’s only notable accomplishments on the international scene are quarterfinal appearances in 1934 and 1954. Even though well-known players like Xherdan Shaqiri, Yann Sommer, and Haris Seferovic have retired from international competition, Switzerland could end up being a dark horse for a run deep into the knockout stages. When will Switzerland announce its FIFA World Cup squad?
On May 20, Switzerland will announce their World Cup 2026 squad.
According to FIFA standards, World Cup-contending teams are required to submit a preliminary roster of players by May 11 and their final, whittled-down list by June 1.
There must be a minimum of 23 players and a maximum of 26 in the final team. As a result, nearly all teams will have a maximum of 26 players.
The requirement that three of these players be goalkeepers is the only additional requirement. Other than that, Yakin has a lot of discretion over who he brings to the competition; some players are guaranteed spots in the squad provided they are fit, while others are competing to qualify.
Up to 24 hours before their first planned tournament game, teams may alter their roster due to illness or injury. FIFA must receive medical documentation supporting the withdrawal for permission.
