Julian Nagelsmann’s men secured a 7-1 victory.

The opening game of Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was an interesting one to watch. Germany team kicked off things in style on the grandest stage of them all.

The DFB Team gave a thrashing to the debutants, Curacao. It was a sensational performance by the Germans. They will now be looking for similar results for the rest of their games. The Julian Nagelsmann-led side are at the top of the Group E table. This incredible win already sends a massive statement to the rest of the nations in the same group.

Ecuador and Ivory Coast are the other two countries in the same group and they must look out for Germany, who are just coming in with a fiery start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.

Five important things we learned:

1. Curacao’s first World Cup goal

The Curacao national football team stepped foot on the grandest stage of football for the first time. They took on the four-time world champions in their opening game. Even though things did not end in their favour, the Dick Advocaat-led side were able to find the net in the 21st minute. This is their only goal at the flagship tournament now. They equalised the scoreline for a while, but later went on to lose the match 1-7.

2. Strong squad depth of Germany

The German national football team have top players in the squad. Even if their starting XI failed to come up with a top performance, they have capable options on their bench as well. Stars like Deniz Undav, Antonio Rudiger and David Raum made an immediate impact on the field just after getting subbed in. Undav went on to score a goal and bagged two assists.

3. Curacao exposed Germany’s early-game complacency

Even though the DFB Team stood tall with a massive win in the end, their start to the game was not promising. The German national football team looked lazy when it came to reacting to promising situations. Their performance in the second half was good, but there are some concerns with their performance in the first half and they need to fix it; against strong opponents, Julian Nagelsmann’s men must get ready to struggle.

4. Manuel Neuer becomes Germany’s oldest player at WC

Manuel Neuer is now playing in his fifth edition of the FIFA World Cup. At the age of 40 years and 79 days, he has become the oldest German player to play in the mega competition. The veteran goalkeeper started for the DFB Team. Neuer came in with a good performance to help his side.

5. Dick Advocaat’s men need more to survive on the world stage

The Curacao national football team have never competed for the prestigious title before. They have also scored their first-ever goal in the FIFA World Cup, but faced a 1-7 thrashing at the hands of Germany. The Blue Waves still need to work a lot on their tactics, and they must develop better midfield control. Curacao must also avoid giving constant chances to their opponents.
