Till when can countries name player replacements for FIFA World Cup 2026?

A record 1248 players will represent 48 nations in the flagship tournament.

The participating countries are warming up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The mega competition will take place in Canada, Mexico and the USA this time around.

The 104-game tournament is all set to begin on June 11. France, England and Spain are the favourites to win the prestigious title. All of these teams have star-studded players in their squads. The nations with the most consistent performances throughout the World Cup will have the most chances of lifting the flagship trophy.

Recently, the Scotland national football team have made changes in the squad after Billy Gilmour sustained an injury during a friendly encounter against Curacao. Manchester United teenager Tyler Fletcher is now going to play in the FIFA World Cup 2026 instead of the injured Gilmour.

The final date to submit the final squads was June 1. The final lineups were then confirmed by FIFA on June 2. But till when will the countries get to replace a player during the flagship tournament?

Till when can countries name player replacements?

The participating nations are only allowed to replace the outfield players in case of serious injury or illness. That too only until 24 hours before the team’s first match in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

But the rules are different when it comes to the goalkeepers. They can be replaced due to serious injury or illness at any time during the tournament.

The final lineups can only have up to 26 players. The expanded tournament is now going to have a record 1248 players this time around. With 48 countries fighting to become the world champions, we can also expect some upsets, with some new nations also coming into play.
