Spurs are unbeaten against United in the last five games.

Thirty-six teams from Europe began their odyssey to win the Europa League and secure a coveted spot in the UEFA Champions League. As we gear up for the final showdown, only the two best teams in the competition have a shot to etch their names into the history books with golden letters and salvage their season.

Manchester United made it to the UEFA Europa League after winning the FA Cup last season. They have been the sole undefeated team in the competition and have made it to the finals after some dramatic moments in the quarter-final encounter against Lyon.

On the other hand, amidst the uncertainties of Ange Postecoglou’s future at North London and injuries that have been a big blow for the Lilywhites, Spurs will need a top-notch performance to end their trophy drought. Both teams had a horrendous domestic campaign, and the Europa League finals present them a golden chance to salvage some pride and make it to the topmost division of the European club competitions, the UEFA Champions League.

In this feature article, we shall delve deep into the combined playing 11 from both teams for the UEFA Europa League Finals. Stay tuned to find out who makes it to our elite 11 with detailed statistical analysis and comparisons.

Tottenham vs Manchester United Combined XI (4312)

GK – Guglielmo Vicario (Spurs)

The Italian custodian from Udine has beautifully transitioned himself into the Spurs setup post-Hugo Lloris’ departure from N17. He has been a rock-solid presence between the sticks for the Lilywhites and has made 8 appearances for Spurs in this competition, while conceding just 5 goals and registering 3 clean sheets.

Though Onana has played more matches and made more saves, when it comes to the best shot stopper among the two, Vicario gets the edge. Unlike Onana, Vicario has also been a calm and composed figure between the sticks for Spurs, avoiding any silly blunders. If the Finals go to the penalty shootout, all eyes will be on Onana and Vicario to determine the fate of the league.

RB – Pedro Porro (Spurs)

Pedro Porro has been a beast for Spurs in the UEFA Europa League. From making those overlapping runs from the right flanks to initiating counterattacks, he has literally taken control of the right wing territory. He has also netted 2 goals for Spurs and made 12 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s outfit.

He has attempted a total of 618 passes and has maintained a decent passing accuracy of 76.8%. His performance played a crucial role in guiding Spurs into the Europa League finals. Looking at his stats and tactical awareness, he gets a nod over the Swedish full-back, Victor Lindelof.

CB – Harry Maguire (Man United)

Harry Maguire simply believes in silencing his critics with his performance. In what seemed to be one of the greatest matches of this decade against Lyon in the quarter-final second leg, Maguire scored that 121st-minute goal to propel the Red Devils into the Europa League semi-finals after United were on the brink of getting eliminated after being two goals down in the 114th minute.

Maguire has played 7 matches in the tournament and has made 24 clearances, 27 ball recoveries and 5 tackles as well. He will be keen to establish an impregnable defence for United and help them repeat the heroics of the 2017 Europa League Finals.

CB – Cristian Romero (Spurs)

The 27-year-old Argentine centre back is a FIFA World Cup champion. Cristian Romero has been in sublime form for Spurs defensively in this competition. In the 6 matches he has played so far, he has 50 ball recoveries and 21 clearances under his belt.

His presence adds a depth of solidarity in the Spurs’ defence. He is set to play a crucial role in determining Spurs’ fate in the Europa League finals, as United will be keen to exploit the midfield vulnerabilities of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

LB – Luke Shaw (Man United)

Amidst the uncertainties of whether Destiny Udogie or Djed Spence will occupy the left-back position for Spurs, we have named Luke Shaw for that role. The 29-year-old wing-back from Greater London will need to put up a valiant display of performance against the North London outfit.

Spurs can be dangerous from the flanks, given Amorim sticks to his 3-4-2-1 formation. Luke Shaw will have to neutralise any attacking threats from the left flank and keep Brennan Johnson under control as he could be deadly with his speed on the flanks. He also boasts a 90% passing accuracy and can make those pin-point crosses for the Red Devils.

RCM – Yves Bissouma (Spurs)

The Malian defensive midfielder will play a pivotal role in Spurs’ midfield in the absence of James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall. Bissouma has played 9 games so far and boasts an excellent passing accuracy of 85% with 304 successful passes.

Apart from taking set pieces, Bissouma can help the defence in times of counterattacks from the opposition half. He is set to be an indispensable player in Ange’s lineup for the upcoming game, tasked with the responsibility of eliminating any threat from United.

CM – Casemiro (Man United)

Casemiro will play a very important role in the Finals for Manchester United. He will be keen to expose Spurs’s midfield vulnerabilities and control the tempo of the game from the middle of the park. Apart from offering defensive stability, he can be helpful during transition plays as well.

The Brazilian has played 12 games for United and has delivered the third-highest passes after Bruno Fernandes and Mazraoui. He boasts an excellent passing accuracy of 87% and also has the second-highest ball recoveries for United.

LCM – Rodrigo Bentancur (Spurs)

Rodrigo Bentancur will be the most important player for Spurs in the midfield. The Uruguayan has a great opportunity to showcase his talent on the biggest stage. The stars have aligned perfectly in favour of the 27-year-old midfielder from Nueva Helvecia.

He has made 12 appearances for Spurs and also made the second-highest passes for Spurs after Pedro Porro, clocking a brilliant passing accuracy of 89%. Apart from that, he is quick with the ball and can contribute significantly in the offence as well.

AM – Bruno Fernandes (Man United)

The Manchester United Captain will look forward to bringing back UCL days to Old Trafford after helping the Red Devils win the UEFA Europa League title. After coming so close to winning the trophy in the 2021-22 season, Bruno has the golden opportunity to turn his silver medal into gold this time around.

From taking set pieces, providing 4 assists to even scoring 7 goals and becoming the leading goalscorer for his side in the UEFA Europa League, he has unarguably been one of the best players in the UEFA Europa League so far.

CF – Dominic Solanke (Spurs)

Spurs’ leading goalscorer in the UEFA Europa League, Dominic Solanke, has the rare opportunity to do what many legendary icons in North London cannot do for decades. He will lead the attacking prowess for Spurs in the finals, and his performance in the Finals could end Spurs long wait for winning a trophy.

In his maiden season at N17, he has the chance to create history. Apart from scoring goals from open play, Solanke never fails to capitalise on set pieces, as he has netted 2 penalties into the goal in this competition so far. It will be interesting to see if Solanke can get past Casemiro and Maguire to find his name in the scoresheet.

CF – Rasmus Hojlund (Man United)

The 22-year-old Danish striker can never find a better stage than the UEFA Europa League Finals to showcase his talent and goal-scoring instincts in front of the world. All eyes will be on the 6 feet 3 inch striker from Copenhagen to break the defensive wall of Spurs.

He has featured in every single game for United and scored 6 goals. A goal or two could see him become the leading goalscorer in this competition. Ruben Amorim will be hoping to see a remarkable performance from Hojlund in the vital game ahead.
