Turkey will look to make their second knockout appearance with plethora of stars.

Coming in for the sixth time to participate in UEFA’s European Football Championship, Turkey will hope to turn all odds when they face the formidable Portugal, Georgia & Czechia in Group F of Euro 2024.

Ay-Yildizlilar in their previous five appearances haven’t impressed much. They had to bid adieu to the coveted tournament from the group stage itself on four occasions. Their best run came in Euro 2008 when they reached the semi-finals before narrowly losing to Germany.

Let’s delve into how Turkey would line up as they hope to get the best results in Euro to date.

Turkey Predicted Lineup (Formation: 4:2:3:1)

GK: Ugurcan Cakir

The 1.91 m Trabzonspor goalie is expected to be Turkey’s first choice in Euro 2024. He has featured in 35 Super Lig games this season. Cakir has also been the nation’s first choice in the last three European Qualifiers. To date, Cakir has represented Turkey in 27 games.

LB: Ferdi Kadioglu

The 24-year-old Fenerbahce left-back is surely one of the most exciting defenders in Turkey. His ability to switch positions with RB is highly valued. He has featured in 51 games for his club in 2023-24.

He has also appeared in 15 games for the national side. Kadioglu missed the last four games owing to a calf injury, but he is fit to make the Turkish defense more solid now.

Although he has only featured in eight matches for the national team to date, he has contributed a goal and an assist. His recent performances in the European qualifiers and international friendlies have garnered attention.

CB:  Merih Demiral

The 26-year-old Al-Ahli Turk featured in the last three games for his country. Prior to those friendlies, he missed five games due to injuries and suspensions.

To date, the talented defender has represented Ay-Yildizlilar in 44 games, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He has played 21 games for Al-Ahli in the 2023-24 season.

RB: Mert Mulder

Another Fenerbahce full-back, Muldur is expected to form a cohesive partnership with his club mate Ferdi Kadioglu. The 25-year-old hasn’t had many opportunities in the Super Lig but has featured in the last four international friendlies for Turkey. He has three assists and a goal to his name.

CDM: Hakan Calhanoglu

The veteran Inter Milan defensive midfielder could prove to be Turkey’s most impactful player in Euro 2024. He was a regular for the Italian giants in the 2023-24 season, appearing in 40 games and contributing 15 goals and 3 assists.

His ability to move forward, coupled with his leadership qualities, makes him an efficient captain of the squad. To date, his contribution to Turkey has been immense, with 18 goals and 15 assists in 86 matches.

CDM: Salih Ozcan

Ozcan’s presence had a significant impact on BVB in 2023-24. He featured in 23 Bundesliga and Champions League games this season and has played an important role for Turkey since his international debut in 2022, becoming a regular for his country since then.

CAM: Arda Guler

The prolific 19-year-old Real Madrid sensation is a key player for the team. He has already made his presence felt at the highest level of football, scoring 6 goals in just 10 appearances in La Liga this season.

The youngster has also showcased his talent in the seven international appearances he has made so far. Fans and Coach Vincenzo Montella will have high expectations from him.

CAM: Orkun Kokcu

Another young and lethal attacking midfielder, Kokcu will be Turkey’s ideal candidate in search of goals and goal-scoring opportunities. This season, Kokcu has featured in 43 games for Benfica, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists. He has featured in all four friendlies that the country has played recently

CF: Baris Yilmaz
