Unity Cup 2026: Top 5 players to watch out for from Zimbabwe ahead of India vs Zimbabwe

India take on Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup 2026 third-place-play-off match.

Zimbabwe suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the first semi-finals at the Valley. They are all set to face India in the bronze medal match, and the Warriors will be keen to get the better of the Blue Tigers to secure a podium finish in their Unity Cup debut.

The first semi-finals saw three-time champions Nigeria making it to their fourth consecutive finals of the Unity Cup after a comfortable 2-0 win over their African opponents. It took Femi Azeez just five minutes to break the deadlock, and Nigeria went 1-0 up.

A brace from the Millwall forward saw Zimbabwe lose the match 2-0 against a tough Nigerian side, and they will now leave no stone unturned to return home with a bronze against lower-ranked India.

Before coming to the Unity Cup, Zimbabwe had a mixed form. In the last five games, the Warriors suffered defeats to South Africa and Egypt. But at the same time, they defeated Asian Champions Qatar, Botswana and drew a game against Angola.

Zimbabwe are just six spots higher than India in the latest FIFA rankings, but they have some really good players, who regularly compete in top European leagues across the world and can pose a formidable challenge to Khalid Jamil’s men.

In this article, we take a close look at the top five Zimbabwe players to keep an eye on ahead of the India vs Zimbabwe bronze medal game.

Marvelous Nakamba (Sheffield Wednesday)

Zimbabwe’s captain was part of the Aston Villa team that reached the finals of the Carabao Cup in 2020. One of the finest players from Africa, Nakamba has plied his trade with top European teams like Club Brugge, Aston Villa and Luton Town before making a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

He is coming after a tough season with Sheffield Wednesday, after Henrik Pedersen’s side were relegated to English third division following their relegation from the EFL Championship.

He has played 22 games for the Zimbabwe national team and played 7 games for the Warriors this season. He is a formidable presence in the midfield, and his vast experience playing across the top European leagues will be key for the Zimbabwe team.

Marshall Munetsi (Paris FC – on loan)

The most valuable player in the Zimbabwe national team currently, Munetsi, is coming after a brilliant season with Paris FC in the Ligue 1. He was part of the Reims team that reached the finals of the Coupe de France in 2025.

He was loaned out from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Paris FC and made 16 appearances and had 5 goal contributions. It was never easy to ply trade in a very competitive league like Ligue 1, especially for a club like Paris FC, which got promoted last season.

But Munetsi was absolutely brilliant, and he is in red-hot form, so Indian midfielders will have a tough time getting the better of Munetsi in the centre of the park.

Jordan Zemura (Udinese)

The Valley is a familiar venue for Zemura, who spent a year with Charlton Athletic early on in his career before making a move to AFC Bournemouth, where he led the club to promotion in the English Premier League.

He currently plays for the top Italian club Udinese Calcio and is coming after a good season, registering 19 appearances. What makes him an asset for Zimbabwe is his positional versatility, as he can play as a left wing-back apart from his traditional left midfield position.

He will be a dominating presence on the left flank for Zimbabwe in the upcoming game.

Munashe Garan’anga (Hibernian – on loan)

The Zimbabwe centre back was loaned to Hibernian from FC Copenhagen due to a lack of game time. He had a pretty dull season in the Scottish Premiership after failing to get more minutes. Hibernian finished fifth in the Scottish Championship race.

Despite a tough season, Garan’anga is a solid defensive powerhouse who will be looking forward to clinching a clean sheet against India in the upcoming game.

Tawanda Chireba (Barnsley – on loan)

India has failed to keep clean sheets consistently in the last few games, and Chireba will be eyeing to find his name in the scoresheet against India in the bronze medal game. The Wolves winger was loaned out to Barnsley this season.

He has previously played for Ipswich Town and has served loan tenures at clubs like Derby County and Huddersfield. He brings raw pace and flair from the wings, and the Indian full-backs will have a tough time controlling Chireba.
