USA will open their World Cup campaign against Paraguay on June 13.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup, football’s most prestigious competition, approaches, nations are in final preparations to compete for the coveted trophy. The 2026 edition is set to be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, and will kick off on June 11.

United States national football team will be one of the nations considered by many to be capable of creating unpredictable results in the tournament. The USA side will be aiming to make huge progress after disappointing in the 2022 edition.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has unveiled the final 26-member squad for the competition. The squad selection has caused immense discussion amongst fans and analysts. The squad comprises a balance between veterans and youngsters, planning to make a mark in their first-ever appearance.

The side will comprise new and upcoming superstars like Ricardo Pepi, Malik Tillman, and Alex Freeman, guided by experienced players like Christian Pulisic and Tim Ream. The team will have high expectations upon them, with the ultimate aim to make a historic deep run on home soil.

Who will be the USA captain?

Charlotte FC defender Tim Ream is set to captain the United States national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ream is responsible for coordinating the side’s backline. The player is set for his second consecutive appearance after playing a crucial role in the previous edition.

Playing a crucial role for the United States in the previous edition, Tim Ream was instrumental in their run to the Round of 16, before ultimately falling to the Netherlands. Playing in a three-back system, the side only conceded four goals in the entire 2022 World Cup

The United States are placed in Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, considered to be a competitive group for the hosts. The USA will be playing alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey. The United States will be kicking off their campaign against Paraguay on June 13 at SoFi Stadium.

Widely regarded as dark horses of the competition, the United States enters the tournament with high hopes. The team’s most recent success was in the 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League.
