The hosts will begin their campaign against Bolivia.

USA have never won the Copa America after coming close multiple times to lifting the trophy. Being the host nation, there will be plenty of eyes on how they fare in this year’s edition. Fans will expect to see their nation lift the trophy.

With players such as Pulisic and Reyna leading the team, they hope to give the fans a trophy in their graveyard finally. The USA is in Group C with Bolivia, Panama and Uruguay. They will open their account against Bolivia in the opening match.

USA predicted lineup (Formation: 4-3-3)

GK: Matt Turner

Matt Turner had an excellent season for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League where he made 21 appearances for the team keeping two clean sheets. Turner has established his position as the number one player on the team after performing impressively. He is adept at distributing the ball as he is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Turner is also impressive in one-on-one situations as he can be too handy as he doesn’t allow many chances for the striker to score.

RB: Joseph Scally

Joseph Scally played club football for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga where he had a good season despite the team’s underwhelming campaign. He made 31 appearances for the team scoring one goal and adding four assists. He likes to take on challenges and is not shy when it comes to making tackles. He covers both halves effectively by using his pace. Scally is also a threat from set-pieces as he can score crucial goals by making excellent runs.

CB: Chris Richards

Chris Richards is an emerging player for the USA national team who is showing his true potential to the team. He is already a regular at the back of the team but can also play efficiently in the midfield for the team. He has mostly played for Crystal Palace in the defensive midfield position. He helps the team maintain defensive solidarity and also joins in attacks with his accurate passing. This season he has made 30 appearances for them scoring one goal and assisting another.

CB: Tim Ream

Tim Ream will turn 37 this year but is still not slowing down. He is one of the most experienced players on the team who has worked hard to perform on the big stage every year. Ream possesses extreme qualities at the back and can comfortably pass diagonal passes. He is equally adept at making tackles and interceptions to limit opponents from scoring any chance.

LB: Antonee Robinson

The Fulham man is one of the most underrated left-backs who does not get the plaudits he deserves. He has been a consistent performer with the national team and his club side with whom he has made the position his own. This season, he made 37 appearances for Fulham in the Premier League and provided six assists. Robinson uses his speed to get past the opposition as he delivers wonderful crosses from the left-hand side of the pitch.

CM: Weston McKennie

Weston McKennie is one of the experienced players in the squad who has been there with the team in the highs and lows. He has already appeared for the national team in 53 matches, scoring 11 goals. McKennie didn’t have the best of seasons this year after failing to score in back-to-back seasons for the first time in his career. However, he collected some assists in these appearances. He is a typical box-to-box midfielder who likes to join in attacks after darting from midfield. He also does defensive duties using his pace and physique.

CM: Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams had a season to forget after being on the sidelines for most of the season. Now that he is back to full fitness, he will be eager to help the team in this competition. Adams protects and helps his defence with his tenacious work as he covers every inch for the team. He also doesn’t shy away from taking on challenges. Tyler Adams broke through in the side in 2017 and since then he has made 39 appearances for the team.

CM: Giovanni Reyna

Giovanni Reyna has made a tremendous impression on Gregg Berhalter after performing impressively for the team in the recently concluded Concacaf Nations League. He was the hero in the semi-final match where he provided two assists after coming on in the second half to help win the clash. He followed it with a goal in the final against Mexico to seal the trophy for the third time in a row. Reyna has an impressive record with the national squad, scoring eight goals in 28 matches for the team.

RW: Timothy Weah

Timothy Weah plays club football for Juventus where he has made 30 league appearances without scoring a goal. But this doesn’t highlight the quality he brings to the side. He is a hardworking player who helps the team in both the defensive and attacking phases. He is also effective at pressing opposition defenders with his relentless pressing. Weah made his breakthrough with the national team in 2018, since then he has made 39 appearances to his name. He also scored six goals for the national team.

ST: Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun had an impressive season for Monaco where he helped the team mount a serious title challenge in Ligue1. They finished the season as runner-up and will play in the Champions League next season. He has already become one of the most sought-after strikers in the league after an incredible season with Reims. Now, he has the chance to lead his nation in the Copa America where they will be among the favourites.

LW: Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic has been one of the most significant players in the team who played a major role in the hat-trick win in the Concacaf Nations League. Pulisic has a remarkable record with the national team after netting 29 goals in 68 appearances for the team. With his pace and dribbling qualities, he can pose a major threat to the opposition. Pulisic plays club football for AC Milan after signing in the summer. He has netted 16 goals this season while adding 10 assists. Pulisic will be a crucial member for the team in this tournament as he already has experience in it.
