USMNT in talks with Patrick Vieira to become their next head coach

Vieira left the RC Strasbourg job by mutual consent.
Patrick Vieira is already seeking a new challenge as USMNT are in talks with the Frenchman to become their next head coach. The United States soccer team fired Gregg Berhalter following group stage exit in Copa America 2024.
Despite starting the tournament with an excellent win, USMNT failed to hold their ground and were eliminated from the competition at the group.
However, their rivals Canada had one of the best tournaments in their history as they reached the semi-finals of the competition. They were sent home after a 2-0 defeat against Argentina.
Meanwhile, Vieira who departed RC Strasbourg, a Ligue 1 club, by mutual consent is open to taking the opportunity. However, the United States men’s team have made a shortlist with LAFC’s Steve Cherundolo and Columbus Crew’s Wilfried Nancy also among the candidates.
The above-mentioned MLS managers appear to be the priority options to become the next head coach of USMNT. There were other managers as well – Jurgen Klopp, Luis de la Fuente and Rafa Benitez. While Klopp rejected USMNT’s offer, it will be tough for the North American side to make De la Fuente their manager after he led Spain to the Euro 2024 title.
However, Benitez could be a solid option for them given he is unemployed right now. It will be interesting to see who will be the next coach of USMNT.
USMNT have now a big decision to make as they have a good number of options. However, if they go on to appoint MLS managers, it could be a wise decision as they are familiar with USA football history and the majority of players in the USMNT play in MLS.
With Benitez and Vieira available, they may also choose to appoint a manager from Europe who has greater experience as their next head coach.
Even though Vieira may have less managerial expertise than Benitez, both of them have managed numerous Premier League sides and are capable of leading any team.
