CR7 gave an early advantage to his side.

The Portugal national football team are going head-to-head against the Uzbekistan national football team for their second group stage fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The contest is taking place at the Houston Stadium.

In their opening game of the mega competition, the Roberto Martinez-led side did not secure the desired result. They were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo. Despite having one of the best midfield players, the Portugal national football team weren’t able to get the ball to the opponents with high intensity.

Seleção das Quinas are yet to lift the FIFA World Cup. They are now off to a positive start to their second group stage game of the ongoing flagship tournament. This will be a big confidence booster for the squad and they are now looking to bag their first three points at the grandest stage of them all this year.

It was Cristiano Ronaldo who gave the Portugal national football team an early advantage. He fired the ball at the back of the net in under seven minutes to change the scoreline in favour of his side (1-0). With this goal, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the only player to score in six different editions of the FIFA World Cup. The 41-year-old is also the oldest goal scorer in World Cup history after surpassing the record previously set by his former teammate Pepe.

Nuno Mendes doubled the lead for the Portugal national football team after netting a sensational direct free-kick goal. Roberto Martinez’s men have come up with a better approach in this game and with a 2-0 advantage, it will not be easy for Uzbekistan to make a comeback against the packed Portuguese side.

CR7 came in with another goal in the 39th minute to complete his brace. With this goal, Ronaldo also became Portugal’s highest goal scorer (10 goals) in the history of the FIFA World Cup.
