Vinicius Junior has been often target of racist remarks from fans
In response to questions about racism posed to him multiple times prior to Brazil’s friendly match against Spain, Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Junior broke down in tears.
Vinicius spoke with the media on Monday in advance of the highly anticipated friendly match between his native country and the one he has been residing in since 2018. But he has also been the target of numerous instances of racial abuse in Spain, which led a few journalists to confront him about it.
The 23-year-old couldn’t contain his emotions as he started crying and demanding an end to “suffering for Black people” before receiving a round of applause. The Brazilian spoke during the press briefing at Madrid’s practice field, Valdebebas, in between sobs.
“I’m sorry. I just want to play football, do everything for my club and my family, never see black people suffering. I have never thought about leaving Spain, because that would be giving the racists what they want”.
“I’m not going to leave the best club in the world”. I’m going to remain firm and strong because the president and the club support me”.
Vinicius has often shown himself to be among the best football players in the world by fending off several racist taunts from opposing supporters. This includes games in which he does not even participate, as demonstrated earlier this month during Atletico’s Champions League match against Inter.

Vinicius has even been the target of racism from prominent Spanish football players and media people. Vinicius has obviously suffered from such horrible abuse at the age of 23, carrying a lot of responsibility while playing for Real Madrid and Brazil, two of the most illustrious teams in football history.
For this reason, the Real star’s friendly match against Spain on Tuesday will be bittersweet. The Selecao enters the match high as well, having defeated England on Saturday.
Vinicius Jr. also shared a video of Atletico Madrid supporters yelling “Vinicius chimpanzee” on social media. Prior to Champions League games that did not even feature Real Madrid, Atletico and Barcelona supporters targeted the winger. In an effort to confront racist taunts from Valencia supporters at the Mestella last year, Vinicius Jr. halted his playing career.
