Hard Rock Stadium, also referred to as the Miami Stadium in Florida, is all set to host the final matchweek fixtures in Group C of the FIFA World Cup 2026, where five-time champions Brazil take on European outfit Scotland in a must-win game to finish atop the points table of Group C.

Steve Clarke’s side are probably just a draw away from creating history by qualifying for the knockout rounds for the first time in the FIFA World Cup. These two sides have met four times previously in the World Cup and Brazil have won three of them, and Scotland held the South American giants to a goalless draw once.

For Brazil, a draw would be enough to finish among the top two teams. But if they have any ambitions of finishing as the table toppers, they must win the game against Scotland and hope that the Atlas Lions do not thrash lower-ranked Haiti by a big margin.

The last two times these two sides met at the World Cup were back in 1998, when Brazil eventually went on to make it to the finals of the FIFA World Cup before Zidane’s France got the better of them.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms in Miami

Brazil fans are excited to see Neymar making an international appearance after years.

However, the sky deities are not in a good mood tonight as there are reports of heavy rains in Miami accompanied by winds, thunderstorms and lightning.

Miami’s geographical conditions make it even more prone to heavy rains and thunderstorms during the summer.

Strong sea breezes from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico make things humid and a prime target for frequent and intense storms.

What if the match gets delayed due to bad weather?

Unlike other sports, matches do not get washed out entirely, and teams share or split points.

Firstly, according to FIFA Weather Protocols, if severe weather or lightning is detected and the play is stopped immediately, players’ and fans’ safety is highly prioritised. Players retreat to the dressing room, and fans go under the sheds or shelter areas in worse conditions.

A mandatory 30-minute clock begins. If another lightning strike occurs during this window, the timer resets to zero. Once the weather clears, teams are given warm-up time based on how many minutes have been played so far.

The match clock restarts at the exact minute and second it was stopped, and the play resumes with the same game situation, like a corner or a free kick.

In case lightning and heavy rains do not stop for an entire day, the match gets rescheduled to another day and time. The next game hosted in the Miami Stadium would feature Portugal vs Colombia, which is scheduled a few days later.
