Die Mannschaft won the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
Germany are arguably considered the most successful team in the century-old history of the FIFA World Cup. After all, they have the most podium finishes by any team in the World Cup and have won the FIFA World Cup four times, the latest one being the 2018 World Cup in Brazil.
However, the Germans have been going through tragic times in major competitions. For the first time since 1938, Germany got eliminated in the group stages in back-to-back editions. The same happened in Euros as the 2024 hosts failed to make it even to the semi-finals.
However, the Germans wasted no time in lamenting and roped in Julian Nagelsmann as the head coach of the Germany national team after he was sacked by Bayern midway to make way for Thomas Tuchel. He is also the youngest coach to lead a German side in the World Cup.
The retirement of the 2014 Golden Generation has cleared the way for a hungry, technically gifted squad that is less burdened by past failures.
At a time when big teams like Argentina, France and Brazil have named their World Cup squads, speculations go on as to when Julian Nagelsmann will announce Germany’s final squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026. In this article, we find out that and also take a look at probable players who will be included.
When is Germany’s World Cup roster announcement?

Earlier, Germany’s World Cup roster was scheduled to be announced on 12 May, but Nagelsmann decided to postpone it to May 21 2026, Thursday, as he wanted the German top division Bundesliga 2025-26 to end successfully, as any last-minute injury could adversely affect the balance.
The exact time for the squad receal is yet to be announced.
As per the rules and regulations of FIFA, teams must submit the provisional roster by 11 May and their final squad list must be released no later than 30 May as the deadline.
Also, in case of injuries, teams are allowed to make a change to their squad up to 24 hours before their first scheduled game of the tournament.
Who are the favourites to be included in the Germany squad?

Alongside captain Joshua Kimmich, Nico Schlotterbeck, Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah are the favourites to fill the defensive voids.
The creative heartbeat of the team, including Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, will be one of the few players to watch out for in the tournament.
Given Ter Stegen’s injury, Manuel Neuer and Hoffenheim custodian Oliver Baumann are expected to make the squad. In the attacking unit, Kai Havertz remains the favourite for the striker position alongside Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry.
Germany are favourites to top Group E
Die Mannschaft are drawn in a relatively easier group, and after getting eliminated in the group stages, they are expected to emerge as the table toppers of Group E.
They are drawn alongside the Ivory Coast and Curacao, both of which are ranked beyond 40 in the latest FIFA rankings. Apart from that, their only big opponent will be Ecuador, who are ranked 23, but still not strong enough to topple Germany from the top spot.
