The Ballon d’Or will be live telecasted tonight

The Châtelet Theatre in Paris will host the renowned 2024 Ballon d’Or presentation tonight.

For the first time in 20 years, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo, who have won 13 trophies between them, have been nominated, making their absence the greatest headline.

Vinicius Junior, a winger for Real Madrid, is the front-runner to win the trophy of the best player in the world and become the first Real Madrid player after Karim Benzema to do so.

Jude Bellingham of England, Vinicus’s Real teammate, and Rodri of Manchester City and Spain are the other contenders.

France Football magazine developed the award, which has been given out since 1956. Journalists from the top 100 nations in the FIFA rankings cast their votes for it.

Ten players are chosen in ranked order by each journalist, one from each nation, with points awarded for each place. The player with the highest number of points wins.

Other honours that will be presented include the Socrates Award for humanitarian work, the Kopa Trophy for best young football player, the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper, the Gerd Muller Trophy for most goals scored by a player, the Ballon d’Or Feminin for best women’s player, the best men’s and women’s club of the year, and the best men’s and women’s coach of the year.
