Wilson Isidor has ended Haiti’s 52-year wait for a World Cup goal.

Haiti are currently facing last edition’s semi-finalists, Morocco, in their last group stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Atlanta Stadium. After losing their two initial games in the group stage, they are already out of the summer tournament.

However, Les Grenadiers are not ready to go down without fighting. Haiti had the opportunity to break the deadlock against Morocco when Lenny Joseph scored, but the goal was later overturned by FIFA as a Yassine Bounou own goal.

However, Les Grenadiers’ wait for a goal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup did not take long, as Wilson Isidor became Haiti’s first goalscorer at the ongoing edition. His strike helped Haiti end their 52-year wait for a World Cup goal.

Wilson Isidor was born on August 27, 2000, in Rennes, France. He started his football career as a kid at Rennes’ academy. He also represented the youth sides of the French side. In 2028, he joined the reserves side of Monaco on a free transfer. Isidor later got the opportunity to make his senior debut for Monaco in 2019.

However, he was loaned to Stade Lavalloris for the 2019/20 season and to Bastia-Borgo for the 2020/21 season. The 25-year-old soon joined Russian side Loko Moscow and then Zenit St Petersburg. However, Wilson Isidor’s biggest chance came in 2024, when he joined Sunderland on loan.

In February last year, he joined Sunderland on a permanent deal. Last season for Sunderland, he played 36 games across all competitions. In the Premier League, he played 32 games and scored six goals. One of his goals also came against former Premier League champions Chelsea.

For Hiati, the 25-year-old has earned seven caps and has scored nine goals.
