Who is Reuben Gokah? Everton's 16-year-old defender

The centre-back has been touted to become one of the best centre-backs.

On 15 August, Everton struck a deal with Charlton Athletic to sign highly talented player Reuben Gokah on a long-term contract.

Even though the 16-year-old hasn’t made his senior debut yet, the Toffees see him as a huge asset for the future.

Details of the trade were finalised on that day, 15 August, and David Moyes‘ team reached an agreement to sign the defender on a long-term contract.

But who is Gokah, and how did he catch the attention of the Toffees?

Who is Reuben Gokah?

The centre-back displayed a brilliant performance for Charlton, which led to top Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the player. Eventually, it were Everton who got the lad.

The 2009-born defender is the most recent product of Charlton’s robust production line, which has produced players like Nick Pope, Joe Gomez, Ezri Konsa, and former Toffee player Ademola Lookman.

Gokah has not represented the senior team, but his efforts have certainly drawn the attention of David Moyes’ side, who were quick to strike a deal with the club.

Gokah is seen as a prospect deserving of being included in Everton’s renewed effort to find bright young players from throughout the nation. The youngster has already represented England at the U15 and U16 levels.

According to his agents Roc Nation, he is a “commanding presence” who is renowned for his “composed ball control” and “excellent positioning.”

At such a young age, he possesses great maturity on the ball. The thing that stands out about him is his ability to play from the back. He is excellent in build-up play and uses his physicality to intimidate attackers.

He is also great in aerials. In the near future, he can be a key for Moyes in set-pieces due to his ability to beat opponents with his athletic qualities and quickness.

Everton have landed a promising centre-back for the future

The Toffees have pulled off quite a coup at the young level because it is thought that the 2009-born will rise to the top.

Gokah started with the under-18 team this season; thus, it is unlikely that he will be included in Moyes’ roster yet.

There will probably be chances for him to play for the Premier League 2 under-21 team if he grows and advances there.

Despite having played for England’s youth teams, Gokah, a centre defender, did not make even a senior appearance for the recently promoted Championship squad, Charlton Athletic.
