Argentina and Austria are facing each other for the first time at the FIFA World Cup.

Argentina are set to face Austria in their second game of the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. The game will be played at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Monday, June 22.

The defending champions enjoyed a great start to their World Cup campaign, defeating Algeria 3-0. Lionel Messi scored his first-ever hat-trick at the summer competition. The Argentine playmaker currently has 16 goals in the World Cup, tying Miroslav Klose’s all-time record for most goals in the tournament’s history.

Three goals against Algeria also made Lionel Messi the oldest player in the tournament’s history to score a hat-trick. Messi has played 27 games, the most by any player in the competition.

However, Austria has also transformed into a stronger team under Ralf Rangnick. The team players are excited about football, as they also defeated Jordan in their first game of the ongoing World Cup. They are currently unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions.

Meanwhile, they have also lost only one game since June 2025. Their only defeat came against Romania in the UEFA World Cup qualification stage. Both teams have got off to winning starts in their respective games, and one more victory would confirm their place in the knockout round.
