Why FC Heidenheim will cause a few upsets in Bundesliga 2024-25?

Heidenheim are currently third in the Bundesliga.
FC Heidenheim’s emergence in the top tier of German football has shocked many fans around Germany. The German league might once again witness a club from a small town take the Bundesliga by storm.
Just like many other underdog clubs, Heindenhein is a team whose stadium capacity is just 15,000. They will be looking to write their name in history this season.
Last season we witnessed how Bayer Leverkusen managed to break Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance and win the league. This is something we can also expect from FC Heidenheim, a club from the town of Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg which represents 50,000 people.
Winning the Bundesliga might be a dream come true for this club. If Leverkusen can do something die Unbesiegbaren (the unbeatables), then Heidenheim can become die Unbeugsamen (the unshakable).
Not only Bundesliga, Heidenheim will also play in the UEFA Conference League. It is one of the biggest achievements for a team that couldn’t even play in 3. Liga football until 2009.
There were many factors for Heidenheim to earn a promotion to the Bundesliga last season. Of course, performance was the main reason which has seen them come this far in their journey. But beyond that, they were financially supported by the Voith machinery company based in the region.
Their motivation also derives from two words kontinuität (continuity) and beharrlichkeit (persistence). These attributes have been sealed in the player’s brains by manager Frank Schmidt, coach of the club since 2007.
He is the club’s longest-serving manager at any club in the German professional game. Credit also goes to their signings which has only included German players and Austrians from across the border.
Heidenheim players know that this is just the start of the new season. There are many games to come. They will face SC Freiburg next after taking a 4-2 beating against Borussia Dortmund today.
Just like many small sides, they can also create history this season but it would be too soon to say so. Hopefully, they will end the season well in the Bundesliga while also leaving a mark in European football.
