Will Alphonso Davies play for Canada in FIFA World Cup 2026?

The Canada men’s national soccer team are now all set to battle it out at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The upcoming edition of the flagship tournament will take place in Mexico, Canada and the USA. Is Alphonso Davies a part of the squad?

The Jesse Marsch-led side have been on a decent run of form at the moment. They haven’t faced a defeat in their last five fixtures and will be eager to keep this momentum going. Les Rouges are all set to take on Uzbekistan and Ireland for their international friendlies before setting foot on the grandest stage of them all.

The Canada men’s national soccer team will participate in their third FIFA World Cup ever. They are yet to secure a win in the mega competition. Canada is one of the hosts, and they will be eager to use it to their advantage.

Les Rouges have unveiled the preliminary squad for the upcoming edition of FIFA’s flagship tournament. It includes top players like Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David. But it will be interesting to see who all are going to make it to the final list to represent Canada.

Will Alphonso Davies play?

The 25-year-old left back recently suffered a muscle injury and has yet to fully recover. Canada’s head coach, Jesse Marsch, mentioned that Alphonso Davies will play in the FIFA World Cup 2026. But he might not be ready to compete in the first group stage match against Bosnia & Herzegovina on June 12 (BST).

“Yes, I think Alphonso will play in the World Cup,” said Jesse Marsch.

He further stated, “No, I don’t think he’ll be ready quite on June 12. But we’ll see.”

Alphonso Davies is set to stay in Germany till the end of May. He will continue his rehabilitation with Bayern Munich and is then going to join the Canadian men’s national soccer team.

Jesse Marsch added, “Bayern has put him through certain protocols that they can do in Germany that they can’t do in North America. So that’s one of the reasons why he stayed in Germany, because we think they have some advanced techniques in terms of the treatments that he can get, so we think that that’s been good.”

“Alphonso will be here on the 31st in Edmonton. So we spoke with Bayern and thought that the best thing for him was to continue his initial recovery treatment until the 28th, then we’re giving him a few days to get away, and then he’ll be joining us the 31st and we’ll pick up his rehab from there, and try to put him in a position to physically succeed and to be part of our team,” he added further.
