Manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Christian Pulisic is a major injury doubt and remains questionable to feature in the heavyweight clash against Australia, leaving American fans with massive concerns.

Doubts arose after the star winger was forced to miss the second half of the tournament opener against Paraguay due to a left calf strain. However, Christian Pulisic is making a massive effort to regain match fitness to be available for the matchup.

“He was training in an individual way the whole week, but like always, I think tonight, the day before the game, we have a meeting with our medical staff, and we will assess the whole group of players, and tomorrow we will communicate on what we agree on tonight.

“He’s evolving. He’s much better since Friday. I think at the moment, we’ll see. If he is not available for tomorrow, he will be available for the next game, but I think he’s making a massive effort, trying to be ready. I think, for every single player that loves their country, it is an amazing opportunity to enjoy and to help the team perform and to win games. When this type of thing happens, it is always painful, but I think Christian is strong with a great mentality. He’s making a fantastic effort to try to get ready as soon as possible.”

Christian Pulisic originally suffered a calf injury after sustaining a minor knock during training a week before the tournament. However, the player was cleared to feature in the opening fixture. He was tackled in the same spot by the Paraguayan defender during the first half of the game. Despite the challenge, Pulisic managed to play through the first half.

As part of precaution, Mauricio Pochettino substituted Pulisic at halftime to prevent a serious muscle tear injury, which could potentially rule the player out of the tournament. The USA’s medical staff has confirmed that the player is currently placed in a personalized training program to fast-track the player’s development.

Christian Pulisic played a crucial role for the side in the opening group match, demonstrating exceptional performances and dismantling Paraguayan defence. He was an essential force in attack, delivering an assist to Weston McKennie in the 28th minute, while also playing an instrumental role in the other two goals in the first half.

The USA are in Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, considered a great challenge for the co-hosts. They currently lead the table alongside Australia, competing ahead of Turkey and Paraguay.
