Will we see Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi face off in FIFA Club World Cup 2025?
Messi’s side Miami will play FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Inter Miami have secured a place in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after they broke the record for most points (74) in MLS regular season history. They surpassed New England Revolution’s 2021 mark of 73 points.
After their win of the Supporters’ Shield, the club fans rejoiced in the booking of their place in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
However, many would argue how Lionel Messi’s side Inter Miami have been able to qualify for the competition after FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed their spot Saturday at Chase Stadium after Miami’s victory.
The qualification itself is one of the biggest steps in the club’s history after they won the Supporters’ Shield. However, they have yet to win the actual trophy, which is the MLS Cup. The Herons will take on Atlanta United on 26 October to kick-start their MLS Cup quest.
After that, they will prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. But will Messi face his old foe Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2025 competition?
Will we see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi face off in FIFA Club World Cup 2025?
No, we won’t witness Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi facing each other in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after Al-Nassr failed to qualify for the competition following their failure to win the AFC Champions League Elite in the past few seasons. In their place, their rivals Al-Hilal will play in the competition.
The new FIFA Club World Cup has been expanded from seven teams to 32 teams. It will take place once every four years going forward, and the 2025 event will be held in the USA next year.
Given that Saudi clubs compete in the AFC (the Asian Confederation), the other three Asian sides to have booked their place in the competition are Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds, UAE side Al-Ain and South Korean club Ulsan HD.
However, the Knights of Najd could participate in the next competition if they are to win the current AFC Champions League Elite, though by that time we could see both Messi and Ronaldo hang their boots.
