The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is still very influential for his national team.

After finishing his MLS season with Inter Miami, Lionel Messi is expected to turn all of his attention to Argentina, who will play Paraguay and Peru in the November break. Messi scored a hat-trick during Argentina’s most recent international window. Now that he is focused entirely on his country, he will be eager to put on another outstanding display at home.

With 22 points from 10 games, Argentina lead the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifier standings at the moment. In this final international break of 2024, the qualification games will resume.

Argentina will hope to make sure that they guarantee their place in the final competition (2026 World Cup) when they face Paraguay and Peru during the November matches. They are facing sides who are struggling to win matches.

Paraguay are sixth in the table while Peru occupy ninth place. Lionel Scaloni’s side should be able to get the job done in both fixtures.

Will Lionel Messi play in the November international break?

Inter Miami’s campaign ended earlier than planned after they were unexpectedly eliminated from the Eastern Conference Playoffs (for the MLS Cup), leaving them with no tournaments left in 2024. But Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team still have two important games left this season.

The 37-year-old legend has travelled to South America and has already trained with Lionel Scaloni’s side. Thus making him more than likely to feature for Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which includes two crucial games. They will host Peru at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, November 19, after visiting Paraguay at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion on Thursday, November 14.

Lionel Messi and his side could get even closer to guaranteeing their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they have good performances during this international break. Although this would be great news for Argentina, Messi has not yet stated whether he will play in the 2026 tournament because he will be 39 years old at the time.
