The Argentine star was dropped from the national team squad for World Cup qualifier games.
Ahead of Inter Miami’s MLS action, Lionel Messi is still a fitness worry. The Argentine legend was getting checked by the medical team during the open training.
Since March 16, the Herons have not been in competitive action. Several star players have taken time off from their domestic responsibilities to represent their countries during the March international break. On Saturday, Javier Mascherano’s team will host the Philadelphia Union.
Meanwhile, Messi is training with the club after he was not called up by Argentina for their World Cup qualifier games due to the discomfort suffered by the player.
Messi’s ability to participate in the Union MLS match is still up in the air. Since the 2025 campaign began, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has carefully regulated his workload. He has missed several games in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Major League Soccer.
The former Barcelona star has not been fit enough, which has seen the club carefully look at his minutes on the pitch to help the player avoid getting any serious injury. Although, without Messi, the Herons have played well his presence does give the club more dimension in the attack.
Muscular exhaustion brought on by the demanding early-season schedule caused Messi to miss three straight games. He played the entire game against Atlanta United after making a comeback in the second leg against Cavalier SC.
Messi’s fitness remains a big worry given the forward is beyond his prime. With a demanding schedule, the player has high chances to suffer a major injury that could keep him out of the season.
In Miami, Messi has been engaged in a personal workout regimen. During an open session at the beginning of the week, he was receiving some medical treatment for his left leg.
He has enough days to play in the next MLS game. He still has time to recover from a muscular ailment before playing against the Union at Chase Stadium.
