The Inter Miami star missed the last international break.
Argentina, the world champions, will play against Chile tonight at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos stadium in Santiago in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying round.
Although Lionel Scaloni’s team guaranteed their place in the championships in March, it appears that Chile, the hosts, will miss the World Cup for the third time in a row.
However, after securing their qualification with a 4-1 thumping of Brazil in March, Argentina might be feeling adventurous.
After three straight victories, Scaloni’s side has dominated the table and are now eight points ahead of second place, making them by far the best team in South America.
Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Uruguay on the road in March was one of those memorable away performances that demonstrated the class difference between them and the other teams on the continent.
They can further demonstrate their strength in some of their remaining qualifying matches, which on paper seem difficult, like a match against Colombia at home and a trip to Ecuador.
Lionel Messi, who holds the record for most appearances and goals scored for Argentina, is back in the squad after missing the March internationals due to injury.
Will Lionel Messi play for Argentina tonight?
Argentina are thrilled to have Lionel Messi back in the squad for their next matches against Chile and Colombia after he missed the March internationals due to injury.
The Inter Miami star, who has contributed eight goals in his last three Major League Soccer appearances, was in team training and was also pictured in the travelling squad and should start tonight’s clash.
Lionel Messi will have the chance to make two more appearances this month for Argentina, who last played in November. He is getting close to reaching a double-century in blue and white after managing an incredible 182 caps with La Albiceleste so far.
In addition, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will be keen to increase his goal total from 112. He easily leads the nation in goals scored, and he has more than twice as many goals as Gabriel Batistuta, who is in second position (55).
