The Argentine scored the only goal in the first leg of the competition.
If Lionel Messiâs Inter Miami defeat Sporting Kansas City tonight at Chase Stadium, they will advance to the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 for the second straight year.
Inter Miami are in a must-win position going into this pivotal match after they defeated Sporting KC 1-0 in the first leg of this tie last Wednesday. Miami scored on their lone targeted attempt, relying on their individual star Lionel Messi to decide the game on a chilly Kansas City evening.
In their opening game of the 2025 MLS season on Saturday, Miami pulled off a 2-2 tie with New York City FC by scoring in the tenth minute of stoppage time, as they did numerous times last season.
Lionel Messi receives more attention each week than any other Major League Soccer star. Fans and the media carefully follow the Argentine starâs every move because he is widely regarded as the best player of all time.
Will Lionel Messi play tonight?
Messi played every minute of the 2-2 draw with NYCFC and helped with the last-minute equalizer. Can he repeat the feat against Sporting KC in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup? It will be interesting to see.
Messi is fit and was also spotted in team training ahead of the match. In order to advance in the tournament, Lionel Messi, who scored the lone goal in the first leg last week, will have to step up again tonight.
The Argentine has a goal and two assists in the previous two matches for the Herons and will once again aim to contribute more to his sideâs win when they host Sporting KC tonight.
Meanwhile, Messiâs minutes on the pitch will be managed carefully as Mascherano certainly doesnât want to overburden the star forward as he will need rest to recover for the next game as well.
