The Argentine has not featured in the last two Herons’ games.

Two unbeaten teams in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer square off tonight when Inter Miami hosts Charlotte FC at Chase Stadium.

Last weekend, the Herons defeated Dynamo 4-1 in Houston, winning their first league game of the season. As anticipated, Miami have started the 2025 season on a high note, scoring six goals in two games and being undefeated in MLS thus far.

The Herons have easily won their two CONCACAF Champions Cup matches at Chase Stadium, beating Sporting Kansas City 3-1 and the Jamaican team Cavalier 2-0 on Thursday. However, Javier Mascherano has yet to win a domestic match at home in this season.

The Herons are undefeated in nine straight MLS games played in Fort Lauderdale and have won all eight of their previous home games during the regular season.

Lionel Messi, the captain, was rested for that match on Thursday as well, but he should return tonight. His fitness has been a real issue, as the club wants to manage his minutes and play him when Messi is fully fit.

Will Lionel Messi play tonight?

Lionel Messi will return to Inter Miami’s lineup in the MLS matchup with Charlotte FC. After the complete participation of the Argentine star in Saturday’s training session, head coach Javier Mascherano voiced hope over Messi’s comeback to the squad.

“Leo is doing much better. As I always say, especially before an MLS match when we have one more training to go, we will evaluate him. We are hopeful that if everything goes well, there is a chance he will be in the squad for the match,” explained the coach.

When the Argentine World Cup champion missed his second consecutive game to rest, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano stated on Thursday night that Lionel Messi is regarded day-to-day due to weariness.

According to Mascherano, Messi is not hurt, but he is coping with the consequences of playing a lot of minutes to begin the 2025 campaign.
