The Herons settled for a draw in their first CWC game.
At the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta tonight, Inter Miami will play FC Porto in an attempt to take charge of Group A and increase their chances of making it to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 knockout stages.
After earning just one point from their matchday one games, the Herons and Dragons are now tied with Al Ahly and Palmeiras in Group A.
In the first game of the Club World Cup in Florida last weekend, Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly held Inter Miami to a goalless draw, preventing the team from getting off to a winning start.
Lionel Messi has contributed 15 goals this season (2024-25) and is anticipated to stay in the attack, despite being frustrated in front of the goal against Al-Ahly.
Will Lionel Messi play tonight?
Lionel Messi is more than likely to be in the starting lineup once more. The forward has faced Porto numerous times during his tenure at FC Barcelona in UEFA Champions League matches.
When the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was seen on television gripping his famous left leg during a training session, it aroused fitness concerns. It looked like the 37-year-old was a little uncomfortable.
Regarding the video purportedly depicting the Heron’s captain in agony, Inter Miami’s head coach Javier Mascherano responded as follows when asked for an update on Messi:
“On the trip from Miami to Atlanta I saw that came out in some places, but Leo is fit, he trained, he completed the whole session. He was touching his leg, sometimes people touch themselves, but there’s no problem, he’s fit and obviously he will play.”
Although the Argentine has a strong record against the Portuguese, he is playing with a completely different squad this time. It won’t be simple for his team to win.
Messi will find it difficult to decide the game on his own since he is not as proficient as he once was. He can still control the game with his incredible passes, but if the team wants to go to the knockout stage, everyone must play at their highest level.
