In the moments following their 2025 MLS Cup victory, Inter Miami declared that their main objective for 2026 was to win the Concacaf Champions Cup. They will now have to re-prioritise MLS play after losing to Nashville SC in the round of 16 and getting eliminated from the competition.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi scored the 900th goal of his remarkable career during the defending MLS Cup champions’ 1-1 draw with Nashville midweek. In a scoreless game against Charlotte FC last weekend, a heavily rotated Herons team managed just one goal in the game.
The Herons will want to rediscover their scoring touch when they travel to Yankee Stadium to take on New York City FC.

Messi’s focus will now shift to MLS, as they look to return to the top after winning only two of four outings so far.
