West Midlands gear up to host the East Sussex outfit.

Matchweek 36 of the Premier League takes us to Molineux Stadium. The Industrial Backbone of Britain, Wolverhampton, will witness a fiery clash as Wolves take on Brighton and Hove Albion.

One of the very few clubs to win all four divisions in English football, Wolves have propelled themselves out of the precarious relegation zone with a series of recent wins. They are currently positioned 13th and have so far been in excellent form with four victories in their previous five matches.

Before facing a defeat against Manchester City in their last encounter, Wolves were riding high on a six-match winning streak, which included the likes of strong teams like Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and West Ham. They would be keen to get back on winning ways by picking up all three points against Brighton in the next game.

From playing for their existence in the late nineties to competing for a European spot in the topmost division of English football, Brighton and Hove Albion’s story is nothing less than inspirational. Currently positioned 10th in the points table, a win in the next game could see them climb up to the 8th spot.

The Seagulls’ recent form has not been up to the mark as they have managed to secure a solitary win in their last five games. They are coming after a 3-2 win over West Ham and a 1-1 draw over Newcastle United. They would be eager to convert their losses into draws and draws into wins in the business end of the season.

  • Stadium: Molineux Stadium
  • Date: Saturday, 10 May

Players to watch :

Matheus Cunha (Wolves)

Matheus Cunha, the 25-year-old Brazilian centre forward, is a product of the Corinthians’ youth academy. After playing his trade with clubs like RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid, he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023 as a loanee. After an impressive spell as a loanee, the East Midlands outfit offered him a permanent contract.

Since settling at Molineux permanently, he has been the cornerstone player for Wolves. He has so far made 30 appearances for Wolves this season and has also contributed to 15 goals. Amidst rumours of the Brazilian’s possible switch to Old Trafford soon, Cunha would be eager to score a lot of goals as Wolves eye a big win over the Seagulls.

Bart Verbruggen (Brighton)

Bart Verbruggen, the young Dutch sensation from Zwolle, has made his mark in the English top flight quickly at just the age of 20. After featuring for the reserves and the senior side of Anderlecht, he joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2023. He was also the recipient of the Anderlecht Player of the Season Award in 2022-23.

The 6-foot-4-inch tall custodian has so far started in every single league game for the Seagulls this season and made crucial saves to mathematically keep them in contention for a continental spot. A clean sheet will be one of the top priorities for Verbruggen as Brighton eye nothing less than all three points.
