Yoane Wissa scores DR Congo's first-ever FIFA World Cup goal vs Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal

This is the second-ever participation for the Leopards at the flagship tournament.

The DR Congo national football team are taking on the Portugal national football team for their first group stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The high-intensity game is taking place at the Houston Stadium.

The Sebastian Desabre-led side looked weak when the game started. They have looked slow in transition and this can become a problem for them moving forward. They conceded an early goal in the game after Joao Neves fired the ball into the back of the net in the sixth minute. This brought a lot of pressure on the Leopards.

The Portugal national football team took a 1-0 lead with an early goal. The Congolese side continued to make a comeback. They have never scored a goal in the FIFA World Cup till now.

DR Congo’s first World Cup goal

Yoane Wissa stepped up to score the equaliser against Cristiano Ronaldo and company. He scored to make the scoreline 1-1 after Arthur Masuaku delivered a perfect ball into the box. This also marks the first-ever goal for the DR Congo national football team at the FIFA World Cup.

Wissa has engraved his name in the history of his country and the mega competition. He has now scored eight goals in 39 appearances for the DR Congo national football team.

This is their second-ever participation on the world stage. Their first participation was in 1974, where they conceded 14 goals and failed to score any.

The Leopards are looking competitive against the Portugal national football team. With their current attacking rate, they are keeping the Portuguese defence on edge.
