Ivory Coast vs Ecuador: Top five youngsters to watch during FIFA World Cup 2026 match

Yan Diomande could be the brightest spark on the pitch for Ivory Coast in the FIFA World Cup 2026

Ivory Coast and Ecuador lock horns in a Group E encounter to kick off their respective FIFA World Cup 2026 campaigns. Ecuador as ranked 23rd in the world and finished second in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Ivory Coast on the other hand topped their group in the African World Cup qualifiers. While both nations are not the favourites to win the tournament, they can easily script an underdog story and go deep into the tournament.

Here are five youngsters (U-25) who can help their respective teams get the result in their opening game of the World Cup at the Philadelphia Stadium.

Yan DIomande (Ivory Coast)

Yan Diomande is growing on the right track to become a high-profile name in world football. The 19-year-old has had a breakout season with RB Leipzig, where he scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists in 36 games. The youngster can play on either wing and has also scored 3 goals in his 10 appearances for Ivory Coast.

Diomande’s pace is his biggest asset and the player would have to play a big part to help his side qualify to the knockout stage.

Joel Ordonez (Ecuador)

The Ecuador right-back will have the task of marking Ivory Coast’s Yan Diomande in what could be the deciding duel of the game. The 22-year-old was part of Club Brugge’ squad in the 2025-26 season and he also scored 4 goals in 46 games apart from his defensive contributions.

Joel Ordonez has made 22 appearances for his national team and has also played 128 games for Club Brugge in his young career.

Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast)

The Manchester United player will have the cameras on him when takes to the field against Ecuador. The 23-year-old has decent experience under his belt having represented the likes of Sunderland, Rangers, and Atalanta aside from the Red Devils.

Amad Diallo will start on the right wing for his country. Though he didn’t have the best 2025-26 season, the youngster looked hungry on the pitch and a good start to his FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign would do Diallo’s confidence a world of good.

Moises Caicedo (Ecuador)

Probably the player with the most potential in Ecuador’s squad, Moises Caicedo will run the game for his nation in the World Cup. The 24-year-old brings with him a wealth of experience, having played for Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League.

Caicedo will play in the central midfield for Ecuador and will be tasked to keep possesion and build up his team’s attack. Since 2020, the Chelsea midfielder has already played for his national team 61 times and this goes to show how important he has become in the setup.

Piero Hincapie (Ecuador)

The 24-year-old is coming off a Premier League winning season with Arsenal and will be high on confidence as he played 39 games on loan for the Gunners in all competitions. Piero Hincapie has also won league with Bayer Levekusen in 2023-24 season and this championship winning mentality shows in his game.

Having already made 52 appearances for Ecuador, expect Hincapie to marshall the Ecuador defence against Ivory Coast in their World Cup opener.
