Formula 1: Most 1-2 finishes in F1 since 2014
While Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez lead the way now, historically a different team has been more dominant.
Since the introduction of hybrid power units in 2014, Formula 1 i.e. F1 has seen a significant shift in the balance of power among its teams. The performance of the teams have become even more noticeable when both their cars secured 1-2 finishes in F1.
With modern tech and a new era of hybrid vehicles the performance of the cars started reaching new heights and when talking about the most 1-2 finishes in F1 since 2014, the following four teams have taken the stage:
4. McLaren (1)
McLaren Racing, one of the most highly decorated teams in F1 history have made a lot of changes in its driver line-ups since the introduction of the hybrid era with eight different drivers in the last eight years.
They ensured 1-2 finishes in F1 only once since 2014 and that occasion was the 2021 Italian Grand Prix where Daniel Ricciardo won his first race for Mclaren and Lando Norris secured his career-best second place on the podium.
3. Scuderia Ferrari (4)
Scuderia Ferrari, one of the most legendary teams in F1 history, has seen many celebrated names in their driver lineups since 2014 which were Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, and currently the pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The team has witnessed a prominent impact in their performances after the introduction of the hybrid era but they have managed to accomplish the feat of 1-2 finishes in F1 only four times in the last eight years.
2. Red Bull Racing (10)
The success of Red Bull Racing can be attributed to a number of factors. The team has grown a lot after investing heavily in the development of their hybrid power units, which have given them a significant performance advantage over their rivals. In addition, their driver lineup has seen quite a lot of changes to find the perfect supporting drivers.
In the period of eight years, they have had seven drivers starting with Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, but when the veteran Vettel chose to leave the team, they found the hero of the next generation Max Verstappen and now with a new partner Sergio Perez, both have created a new era for Red Bull as they saw 1-2 finishes in F1 10 times in last nine years.
1. Mercedes-AMG Petronas (54)
One team, in particular, has emerged as the dominant force on the grid, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team, led by team principal Toto Wolff and powered by Mercedes engines, has been a dominator in the sport with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas being their most reliable pair for most of the successful partnerships.
Over the period of the last eight years, they have recorded a staggering 54 times 1-2 finishes in F1 since the start of the hybrid era. It started with Nico Rosberg and Hamilton, and currently both British drivers, Russell as the young prodigy and Hamilton being the legend for the team.
Valtteri Bottas was a very good support to the team and his team-mate as they had been the overpowering team in F1 since the start of the hybrid era, winning every driver's and constructors' championship between the period 2014 and 2020.
But as his age strikes up, they scouted young Russell as a new potential for creating a reliable driver team for the future of Mercedes AMG.
In conclusion, the dominance of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Team in terms of 1-2 finishes in F1 since 2014 is a testament to their strength as a team and their ability to consistently deliver strong performances on track for both their drivers.
While other teams have had their moments of glory, it is clear that the Mercedes Team were at the top of its game and have a new challenge in the form of Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari. The future of F1 is sure to be exciting as teams continue to push the limits of what is possible on the track, and we can expect to see plenty of exciting racing in the years to come.
