Ranking the top three favourites to win F1 Dutch GP 2023
This is the home race of current World Champion Max Verstappen
As Formula One returns to the sand dunes of Zandvoort (Dutch GP), Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is the heavy favourite as he looks to register his third consecutive home victory since the Dutch GP made a return to the F1 calendar in 2021.
The championship leader is also chasing history, as he’ll be looking to make it nine race wins in succession, a feat only ever achieved by Sebastian Vettel during the 2013 season.
In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the top three favourites to win the Dutch GP.
3. Lando Norris
The McLaren number one has been in ominous form since the start of the season, and now that he has a car that can challenge the front runners, Lando Norris stands a great chance to register his first ever F1 victory.
With McLaren bringing new upgrades to Zandvoort, any improvement should put them right up there alongside the Red Bulls. Moreover, as evident from the last couple of races, this year’s McLaren is rapid in cooler and more changeable conditions. Thus, under favourable conditions, Lando Norris definitely stands a chance to pull off a shock and spoil Max Verstappen’s party.

2. Lewis Hamilton
Despite Mercedes’ woes in the development race, Lewis Hamilton has been near faultless for the Berkeley-based outfit this season. Although the car isn’t there yet to compete for outright race victories, the Brit has consistently outperformed his W-14, with many suggesting this to be arguably one of Hamilton’s best F1 seasons till now.
Moreover, given that the seven-time world champion has a knack for finishing seasons strongly, he’ll be right up there if the latest upgrades from Mercedes prove successful. Additionally, with the track characteristics supposedly suiting the Mercedes car, Hamilton will have a chance to register his first race victory since Saudi Arabia in 2021.
1. Max Verstappen
Ten wins out of 12 rounds. An eight-race-winning streak. Max Verstappen is rewriting the history books as he storms towards his third world championship title. The Dutchman is already 125 points clear of his teammate and championship rival Sergio Pérez, and a win here at Zandvoort, in front of his home crowd will take him level with Sebastian Vettel for the all-time record of the most consecutive race victories.
Despite rivals bringing in new upgrades every grand prix and Red Bull having seemingly turned their development focus on the 2024 car already, Max is still able to outmuscle his car and obliterate his competition without a care in the world. With the confidence and maturity with which he’s driving currently, it is almost impossible to look past the championship leader as the hot favourite to win this weekend’s Dutch GP.
Moreover, given the tight and challenging nature of the track and unpredictable weather conditions, expect this year’s Dutch Grand Prix to keep you on the edge from start to finish.
