Max Verstappen has dominated the track in the Miami GP history
The Miami Grand Prix has quickly become a highlight on the Formula 1 calendar since its debut in 2022. With its unique location around the Hard Rock Stadium and a thrilling atmosphere, the race has provided fans with countless memorable moments.
Here, we take a look back at five unforgettable events from the Formula 1 Miami GP.
5. Verstappen vs Leclerc: Miami 2023 showdown
During qualifying for the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, errors caused Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Max Verstappen of Red Bull to finish P7 and P9, respectively. On the grid, Kevin Magnussen of Haas secured P4 with a better run.
Leclerc tried to pass Magnussen during the race but couldn’t. Verstappen took advantage of this situation and used a slipstream and DRS to pass both cars.
4. Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris’ collision
A memorable event occurred on lap 41 of the Miami GP 2022 when Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris collided. As the race approached its finish, the two were racing in P11 and P14. However, Gasly’s wide run at Turn 7 gave Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher clear passes.
But while Gasly was trying to get back on track, he found himself alongside Norris as they were approaching turn 8. They tried their level best to avoid hitting each other, but Gasly’s car touched Norris’, causing Norris to spin out of control.
This forced the race officials to bring out the safety car to clean up the mess. Gasly’s car got damaged too, so he had to retire from the race.

3. Lewis Hamilton’s defensive masterclass
Lewis Hamilton showed off some fancy footwork on the track during the Miami GP 2022. He shifted from a defensive stance to a more offensive one. Even though he started in P6, he had George Russell hot on his tail from P12.
With the help of DRS, Russell had a fantastic opportunity to overtake Hamilton for P6 on the 1.3km (0.8m) back straight. But Lewis Hamilton witnessed his teammate run him nearly to the wall in addition to slamming the door shut behind T17. Hamilton even went so far as to transform his defence into a charge.
2. Max Verstappen’s charge to victory in Formula 1 Miami GP 2023
Red Bull gave Max Verstappen a race vehicle of his dreams, and he was completely dominating during the 2023 Miami Grand Prix. Because of its DRS and rear packaging, the RB19 had exceptionally fast straight line speed. Verstappen breezed through the order from P9, making overtaking a blitz.
During the first few circuits, Verstappen took his time to get his tyres inside their functional range. On laps four and five, he only passed Esteban Ocon, but he quickly passed Leclerc and Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly on lap eight, Carlos Sainz on lap fourteen, and Fernando Alonso on lap fifteen.
Max Verstappen put in everything that he had in that race and absolutely crushed Perez to win.
1. Lewis Hamilton’s encounter with Fernando Alonso
Lewis Hamilton‘s first Formula One race of 2022 did not start well as Fernando Alonso bumped the Mercedes driver. Alonso just managed to earn P11 in qualifying, while Hamilton had qualified in P6. Still, they were near each other as they entered Turn 1.
Alonso’s day of playing bumper cars outside Hard Rock Stadium, however, was far from done. On Lap 39, the two-time drivers’ champion of Formula 1 also bumped into Gasly. At Turn 1, Alonso attempted a bold move to go inside the Frenchman, but he was not committed enough.
