What’s the latest update?
Till now, the fans and gaming community are pretty confused with Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider show. This show was announced in 2023.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the writer and executive producer, with Sophie Turner playing Lara Croft. However, recent rumors have sparked some doubts.
Fans are now wondering whether this show is going to get canceled or not. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Current state of Amazon’s Tomb Raider show
According to the Daily Mail, Waller-Bridge has been working on the script; however, it was not ready until now.
The sources are suggesting that this series might be dead or not ready to film in early 2025, despite a Prime Video executive saying otherwise last year.
The fact that Jennifer Salke, who helped order the show and personally oversaw its production, left her position as CEO of Amazon Studios last week didn’t help either.
According to reports, the project, which has cycled through two writers’ rooms with no development, has cost tens of millions of dollars.
Along with other producers like Waller-Bridge, Lee Daniels, and J.J. Abrams, Salke, who brought Waller-Bridge on board in 2019 and mediated the Tomb Raider deal, now has a first-look deal with Amazon.
Amazon and Embracer Group, the company that owns the Tomb Raider IP, have not acknowledged that the show was canceled.

Is the Tomb Raider show really cancelled?
Despite the lack of a script and confirmed storyline, the current rumors might turn out to be false. There is no doubt that Hollywood productions often face turbulent development cycles.
Amazon’s Fallout and HBO’s The Last of Us were similarly secretive before becoming hits. Production cycles are always difficult and may take some time.
There is a solid chance that this show might get delayed until they confirm the script. The filming might start in 2026.
But there is also a chance that the Tomb Raider show might get canceled. For now, we can only wait and see how Amazon handles this situation.
