No use of AI!

Game Science’s debut AAA title, Black Myth Wukong, was a huge success and now fans are awaiting the sequel, Black Myth Zhong Kui, which still does not have a release date.

In a recent article from Gamersky, Yang Qi, co-founder of Game Science, recently had an interaction with Weibo, where he revealed that their team has no intention to rely on AI to speed up the development process.

Game Science prefers craftsmanship over speed

Yang Qi explained that their whole team is sticking with the traditional design and development method. This discussion started when he praised filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s for his latest movie, The Odyssey.

He described the movie as, “standard answer for epic films.”

The movie has deeply inspired him. Afterwards, a fan asked him in the interaction about AI and how it could increase the speed of Black Myth Zhong Kui.

To which Yang Qi gave a pretty bold answer and suggested the studio’s stance on AI. According to him, game’s design and asset creation phases will largely stay away from AI-generated content.

Their team does not oppose AI, but they want to preserve the human craftsmanship that is involved in creating games’ visual and original artistic identity.

Black Myth Zhong Kui is still in early development

Game Science officially announced Black Myth Zhong Kui last year at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event.

The studio only released the cinematic trailer for the game and introducing the new protagonist, Zhong Kui. Game Science has also confirmed the game is still in the early phase of development.

The studio is known for using August 20 as an annual traditional date to showcase & share their major announcements.

Is Black Myth: Zhong Kui using AI for development?

According to Yang Qi, the game’s design and asset creation stages will largely avoid AI-generated content, with the studio favoring traditional development methods.

Why is Game Science avoiding AI?

Yang Qi believes handcrafted design delivers stronger artistic quality and doesn’t see a need to rush toward AI simply because the technology is available.

Is Black Myth: Zhong Kui still in development?

Yes. The game remains in early development, and only a cinematic trailer and a short promotional film have been released so far.
