Chrono Trigger remake reportedly in development at Square Enix

Insider claims the remake is in the works!

A very long-awaited Chrono Trigger remake might be happening! This is the information that is revealed by the well-known insider, John Harker. This information is from the ResetEra forums.

John recently commented on a discussion on a recent Square Enix survey. The publisher has solicited suggestions among the fans on what past titles they wish to be re-done.

Though numerous other responders were asking about a remake of Chrono Trigger, Harker responded that the project already exists and indicated that the remake might not need to be requested.

What could a Chrono Trigger remake look like?

Apart from knowing the remake is in development, John didn’t reveal or share anything else. Now, one of the major questions is whether this remake will adopt Square Enix’s popular HD-2D visual style or go for a full 3D overhaul.

HD-2D HD-2D, as used in the Live A Live remake, has been designed to blend pixel graphics and contemporary lighting and depth effects. Since the visuals of Chrono Trigger are unique in terms of sprite, this type would be adopted best, according to the fans.

However, many fans (including me) are hoping for a large-scale 3D game, similar to a Final Fantasy remake, with modern visuals, graphics and combat, while maintaining the original story of the game.

For now, nothing has been officially confirmed by Square Enix, so we should stay tuned for the official announcement.
