According to Variety, a former WWE Superstar and Hollywood star who is known for his role in Dune, the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and more has now officially signed to play the role of Kratos.
This comes after Ryan Hurst, who suffered a torn bicep injury on the set while filming in June 2026. The injury required surgery and has significantly delayed the production. Due to this, Sony Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios decided to recast the role.
Just earlier this month, we heard reports and rumors that Bautista was in talks to replace Ryan and now it has finally become official.
The series was first shot in Vancouver in February. Several scenes that included Hurst had already been filmed, so shooting will resume in the next couple of weeks with Bautista in the parts that were previously filmed with Hurst.
What to expect from God of War TV series?
Amazon is already looking for two seasons and both of these seasons are expected to be filmed back-to-back.

The cast also includes Callum Vinson as Atreus, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as Brok and Sindri, while Ed Skrein portrays Baldur.
Writer and showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who also directed the first two episodes, will direct the rest of the series while Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the second two.
