One of the most anticipated Xbox games of this year, Fable has now been delayed to 2026. Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Studios, announced the news on a recent episode of the official Xbox podcast on February 25, 2025.

Why Fable has been delayed?

“We’d previously pegged Fable for 2025,” Duncan shared, buzzing with enthusiasm for the project’s progress. “But we’re giving it more time—it’s now shipping in 2026. I get that’s not the update everyone’s hoping for but trust me, it’s going to be absolutely worth the wait.”

They are now focusing more on the quality of the game and don’t want to rush things. They don’t want to disappoint the fans and will deliver a reboot befitting of the franchise.

Craig Duncan has confidence in the studio as he stated, “Think about their legacy with Forza Horizon,” he said. “The last two games were critically acclaimed, blending jaw-dropping visuals with top-notch gameplay. They’re bringing that same magic to Fable.”

He teased a visual feast, referring to it as the “most beautifully realized version of Albion” yet—an alluring promise for a place fans have cherished since 2004.

This game was first teased in 2020 and since then it has been kept under wraps until they revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. Previously, they were looking toward the 2025 release but now, it seems fans have to wait one more year.

However, this extra time is very valuable for the studios as they can work more on the quality and deliver a standout RPG game next year. Some fans were disappointed but they all agreed that this might be the best decision. But some are thinking that they are just trying to avoid clashing with GTA 6.
