The game is all set to launch on October 6, 2026

The Coalition and Microsoft Xbox have finally revealed the Gears of War E-Day Multiplayer details and fans are pretty hyped about it.

Two modes have been revealed for multiplayer: Horde Siege and Versus. The game will also not have a battle pass. You can earn rewards and unlock most of the content just by playing the game.

Gears of War E-Day Multiplayer modes explained

There are two primary modes: Horde Siege for cooperative PvE gameplay and Versus for competitive PvP matches.

Additional modes and more maps are also planned for the post-launch updates.

Horde Siege

This is a large-scale 12-player cooperative PvE mode. Players are divided into squads of four and they have to defend the city of Kalona. You will face relentless Locust attacks and have to complete the objectives.

There will be three mission types:

  • Blitz: Fast-paced missions lasting around 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Siege: Multi-map battles that typically run between 20 and 40 minutes.
  • Horde: The ultimate endurance challenge, lasting 50 to 60 minutes or longer against increasingly difficult enemy waves.

Versus mode

The competitive multiplayer will return with 4v4 Versus mode. There will be four different types of game spread across locations in Kalona.

The confirmed modes include:

  • Team Deathmatch: Eliminate opponents to reach the score limit.
  • Conquest: Capture and hold objective zones similar to King of the Hill.
  • Demolition: An attack-and-defend mode where teams plant or stop explosive devices.
  • Crucible: Players must secure and transport a heavy COG objective to a designated extraction point while fighting off enemies.

No battle pass in multiplayer!

The Coalition has announced that there will be no battle pass system in Gears of War E-Day. Every cosmetic and reward can be earned by simply playing the game.

Players will receive the in-game currency called Coins and this can be earned just by playing the game.

The earn rates have been balanced carefully and players will feel constantly rewarded.

The studio mission is to eliminate unnecessary distractions and hone in on the hardcore third-person shooting that made the original Gears multiplayer so popular.

Will Gears of War E-Day have a Battle Pass?

No. The Coalition has officially confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will not feature a Battle Pass, with most rewards unlocked through normal gameplay.

What multiplayer modes are available in Gears of War: E-Day?

The game launches with two main multiplayer experiences: Horde Siege (PvE) and Versus (PvP), with additional maps and modes planned after release.

What is Horde Siege in Gears of War: E-Day?

Horde Siege is a 12-player cooperative mode where squads defend Kalona against enemy waves across Blitz, Siege, and Horde missions with varying objectives and difficulty.
