Hidden Secrets You Missed in the Trailer

The Sucker Punch Studio’s new upcoming game Ghost of Yotei has been on the trend in the gaming community. At the PlayStation State of Play, the small trailer was also revealed along with the announcement and release date.

But have you noticed some hidden details, easter eggs and key details from the trailer? In this article, we will discuss them.

Ghost of Yotei Trailer Breakdown

Let’s start with the details that you might have missed in the trailer. These were noted and revealed by VGTGamingNews on Twitter/X.

  • The game’s female protagonist ‘Atsu’ seems to be wearing a kill list and she crosses one of the names on the list with blood. The codenames are The Spider, The Dragon, etc.
  • The ghost mask which Atsu is wearing seems to be very old. It may have been passed down or inherited by different people through the ages. There is a chance that we might see a Jin Sakai reference in the game.
  • The mask has also been repaired by using kintsugi. If you zoom in, you can clearly see the gold lines on the mask.
  • There is also a wanted poster of Atsu which is shown in the game. It says, “WANTED: 28/29-YEAR-OLD FEMALE, Last seen in Mount Yotei Region, Reward for her head: 100 ryo.”
  • In the Ghost of Yotei Trailer, Atsu wields Katanas “Nitoryu” aka dual blade fight style.
  • This game will take place in 1603 in modern-day Hokkaido in the north of Japan. During this period of history, it was a lawless land outside of the rule of Japan.

Japan History and What We Can Expect

The year 1603 in Japan set the beginning of the EDO period under the Tokugawa Shogunate. Then it was followed by the Sengoku period which marked the unification of Japan Tokugawa Ieyasu.

During this time, Hokkaido was not integrated into the rest of Japan and it was largely inhabited by the Ainu people. Maybe Atsu from Ghost of Yotei might be one of those people.

This island was also called Ezo at that time. The Japanese interaction with the Ainu was complex, involving trade, conflict, and attempts at assimilation.
