God of War Laufey release date announced alongside new God of War game starring Kratos

Kratos is returning after Laufey!

At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation have officially announced the release date for the upcoming game, God of War: Laufey.

This game will officially launch on February 16, 2026, for PS5 and will also get a physical disc version. The studio’s creative director, Cory Barlog, also shared some new details and the game’s story.

Faye takes centre stage in God of War Laufey

Unlike any other God of War game, Faye is going to be the main character instead of Kratos. She is the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus.

According to Cory Barlog, this game is going to serve as an “expansion” to the current Norse Saga while also bridging it to the next mainline God of War title.

Players and fans will finally be able to experience the untold story of Faye and her journey after her death. In the game, she is seen venturing through the mysterious realm known as Everywhen.

She will be battling powerful gods from multiple mythologies in an effort to protect the future she has planned for Atreus and Kratos.

The next God of War game

Cory Barlog has also broken his silence and shared the information that God of War Laufey is going to connect directly to the next main installment of God of War.

For now, the upcoming main game has yet to receive any type of official announcement, trailer, or release date.

They have also confirmed that Kratos will return after the events of Laufey. So, if you are wondering about the official reveal, it will probably come in late 2027 or early 2028.
