This is an unofficial port!
Although Rockstar Games has never officially released GTA 5 for Nintendo Switch, it seems that fans might have found a solution to run this game on the Switch.
There is now a fully working native port running on the Nintendo Switch hardware. Interestingly, this project has arrived just a few months before the launch of GTA 6. Let’s check out more details in this article.

GTA 5 running natively on Nintendo Switch
First of all, we would like to remind you that this is an unofficial port made by Paralympics Productions. They reportedly rebuilt the game using all the information that was available following the GTA 5 source code leak in 2023.
This is an unofficial port and is not supported or promoted by Rockstar Games!
Despite the unofficial port, the early footage of the gameplay that was posted on social media and gaming forums proves that the game is now fully playable on Nintendo Switch hardware.
Playable but not perfect
According to the gameplay footage that was shared by the developers, the game appears to run at 10 and 25 FPS on the standard Switch hardware.
This might seem playable, but it is not ideal. This clearly indicates that the hardware can’t run the game properly. However, things improve noticeably if the console is overclocked.
The overclocked Nintendo Switch OLED can reportedly run at a minimum of 30 frames per second in most situations, but still drops frames in densely populated areas or when playing action-heavy games.
But overall, it’s described as similar to the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA 5, and not the enhanced PS4, Xbox One, or PC versions.

Conclusion
This might also be the reason why we never got an official port for GTA 5 on Nintendo Switch. The hardware seems incapable of running the game properly.
Meanwhile, the fans are currently pretty hyped for GTA 6 after the recent Extended Look showcase and latest gameplay previews from content creators and media outlets. The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
